A group of old houses scattered everywhere on the green hills, which are covered by olive trees and vineyards delimiting the street from Barberino Val d’Elsa to Certaldo. This is Borgo Petrognano at first sight, until a spectacle of rare and evocative beauty appears: elegant and finely decorated arcos, old bastions, majestic medieval towers, prestigious houses full of history, charm, and mystery. A mystery that lingers on the name of a mythical town that no longer exists: Semifonte, mentioned in Dante’s Paradiso, for its military and commercial virtues. In 1202, this town succumbed to Florentines’ anger, deceits, and treason, given that they brutally blocked its rise. After destruction, only the current residential area of Petrognano survived, given that it was out of the town walls.
In this piece of heaven, hidden in the heart of Chianti, the tower and four villas that represent the core of Borgo Petrognano have been wisely restored and turned into a wonderful Relais, which represents the ideal location to spend a dream-like holiday in a luxury estate, full of charm and history, close to Siena, Florence, Pisa, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, Volterra, and all the other extraordinary beauties of the Tuscan countryside. Relais Borgo Petrogano offers the magic, warm atmosphere, and sweet harmony of a unique land, Tuscany, which is able to combine romanticism, elegance, art, beauty, and relaxation.
Sitting back at the sun and relaxing in the poolside are just two examples of the activities that Relais Borgo Petrognano offers its guests. In fact, this fantastic place provides many experiences: going horse riding, have a tour by Vespa through Chianti hills, wine tastings and oil tastings along the area of Siena and Florence, to discover the Tuscan culinary tradition. And trips into the woods to find the prestigious truffle, and the complete relaxation between the walls of the beautiful spa, where you can experience a series of beauty and cosmetic treatments with very-high-quality natural products and local raw materials.
Relais Borgo Petrognano consists of 14 rooms with private bathroom, air-conditioning system, and minibar. They are split in 4 buildings around a beautiful panoramic terrace in the middle of the hamlet, characterized by a spectacular view of the valley full of vineyards and olive trees. Even if some rooms contain old family’s furniture, the modern marble or cotto bathrooms and floors emphasise the natural harmony of this place. The stone-wall suite is extremely evocative: it consists of three floors in the sighting tower of old Semifonte. From there, they used to supervise both the Florentine side and the Sienese side. Now, it allows you to admire a breath-taking view, from the Tuscan hills to San Gimignano towers and the Apennines’ peaks.
