Palazzo Astolfi

Ancient palace - Poggio Berni (Rimini), sec.XVIII

XVIII secolo

The foundations dates back to the medieval days and can still be viewed down in the basement and wine cellar. Towards the end of 18th, Palazzo Astolfi (once called Palazzo Giliendi) was restored and converted to the Bishops country residence, and the original coats of arms of he Archbishops testify this presence.
Today, the outside faade portrays the palaces 17th origin, particularly the faade looking out onto the park and the courtyard with an old well. Inside there are a number of magnificent large banquet and dining rooms, some are still adorned with ceiling frescoes. The kitchen is rustic with marvellous exposed wooden beams and boasts a typical old oven once used to make bread.
During the 19th the cellar was used to make extra virgin olive oil for the entire valley. Some of the old millstones used to press the olives can be seen in the cellar. The villa enjoys a prestigious position with spectacular views of the Adriatic coastline, from Rimini right through to Ravenna, as well as the surrounding undulating valleys below including Montefeltro.
