An old warehouse devoted to rice storage and production may become the ideal place to celebrate the best day of your life. Actually it sounds strange, but that is exactly what makes La Pila so charming, therefore it may represent the perfect setting to seal your love dream through a magical, exclusive and lively wedding reception.
Set in the middle of Lomellina, not too far from the left bank of the river Po, La Pila was built in Sartirana in 1700 with the purpose of creating a warehouse for the adjacent Viscount’s castle that dates back to the XIII century.
This unique and evocative location, different from the other ones, has its own personality and charming and intense history that endures still today, thanks to the numerous testimonies that provide documentary evidence of the procedures connected to rice production.
The oldest part of the building, which dates back to the XVII century, consists of spacious rooms, with barrel or cross vaults, made of typical red clay bricks devoted to keep grain after harvesting. First-floor rooms have spectacular ceilings with evocative wooden trusses and many walls that still show paintings in tempera about different levels and weights of stocked rice. The middle part (which dates back to the XIX century) still has a water mill that works thanks to the water diverted by the old Roggione of Sartirana, which supplied energy for the process of rice husking, carried out through still existing and working machinery. After rice husking, that is the cleaning of the external peel of the rice, rice went through a process of polishing in a piece of rotating machinery, equipped with stiff brushes. Nowadays, it is positioned in the last wing of the building erected around the first years of the XX century.
This wonderful and very distinctive historical residence has a large quantity of outdoor spaces, suitable for the needs of any wedding reception, whether it may be small or crowded. The Salone del Riso can accommodate up to 250 guests, while the Sala delle Travi and Sala Tramoggia can host smaller events or distinct moments of the same wedding. The lovely and spacious outdoor courtyard, with its farmyard and big portico, is the ideal location for a banquet, aperitif, buffet or for a spectacular cutting of the cake.
